Germany: DAX Finishes in the Red.

Frankfurt's DAX 40 returned to negative territory to close about 1.6% lower at 23,816 on Thursday, as volatility in global markets continued amid the uncertain situation in the Middle East. Energy prices have risen again as strikes in the region showed no sign of de-escalation, raising concerns over the economic impact of a prolonged war. Earlier in the session, sentiment improved following reports that Iran indicated in early talks with the United States that it might give up its stockpile of highly enriched uranium in exchange for concessions. Shares of Merck (-8.1%) and DHL parent Deutsche Post (-4.6%) remained under pressure following their earnings reports and disappointing 2026 outlook. Rheinmetall, Siemens Energy, Infineon Technologies, Fresenius SE & Co and Siemens were also among the top losers, shedding between 3% and 5%. Banks including Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank saw losses of over 2% each.
