5 August 2026, 19:03  France: CAC 40 Closes at Record High.

The CAC 40 edged up to a record close of 8,669 on Wednesday as investors welcomed progress in US-Iran talks, improving global risk sentiment. US President Donald Trump struck an optimistic tone, saying negotiations with Tehran were "moving along very nicely." Oil prices fell on reports that the US, Iran, and Oman were close to a 60-day interim agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz without tolls. Financial stocks were mostly higher, with Societe Generale up 1%. Industrials also advanced, led by Safran (+0.6%), Airbus (+0.4%), Air Liquide (+0.9%), and EssilorLuxottica (+0.6%). Meanwhile, French industrial production rose 0.1% in June, below forecasts of a 0.3% increase but rebounding from a 0.1% decline in May. In contrast, luxury stocks weighed on the index, with LVMH (-1.1%) and Hermes (-0.6%) lower, while TotalEnergies fell 0.6% on weaker oil prices.
