4 August 2026, 11:21 Italy: Retail Sales Fall 0.1% in June.
Italy's retail sales edged down 0.1% month-on-month in June 2026, reversing a 0.2% increase in May and falling short of market expectations for a 0.1% gain. Food sales decreased 0.4% after rising 0.1% in the previous month, while growth in non-food sales was steady at 0.2%. On an annual basis, retail sales rose 3.1% in June, accelerating from a 2.2% increase in May, , supported by stronger growth in non-food sales (4.0% vs. 2.2%) and a sustained increase in food sales (at 1.9%). Among non-food products, gains were recorded across all categories except footwear, leather goods, and travel goods, which declined 1.2%. The largest increases were seen in household appliances, radios, televisions, and tape recorders (14.2%), as well as IT, telecommunications, and telephone equipment (12.6%). The value of retail sales went up across all distribution channels, notably online commerce (26.7%).
