Portugal's unemployment rate held steady at 5.7% in July 2026, unchanged from June. The gender gap persisted, with unemployment at 6.4% for women compared with a record-low 4.9% for men. The adult unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.6%, while youth unemployment stood at 20.1%. The number of unemployed fell by 2,700 to 320,200, while employment declined by 9,900 to 5.67 million. As a result, the employment rate slipped to 66.1% from 66.3%, and the labor force participation rate eased to 70.1% from 70.3%. Meanwhile, the broader labor underutilization rate, which includes unemployed, underemployed, and marginally attached workers, rose to 9.5% from 9.3%.
