27 August 2026, 17:00 Canada: TSX Slips as Oil Rebounds.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index edged lower to hover above the 36,500 mark on Thursday as a rebound in oil prices renewed inflation concerns, offsetting a largely positive batch of bank earnings this week. Crude prices moved higher after the US and Iran traded recriminations over Washington’s pledge to increase economic pressure on Iran by targeting its trade partners with sanctions, renewing concerns over energy costs. RBC shed over 1% despite reporting third-quarter profit of C$6 billion, up from C$5.4 billion a year earlier, boosted by strength in wealth management, capital markets and commercial banking. CIBC lost 0.5% despite beating estimates on better-than-expected results from its capital markets and retail banking units. Meanwhile, TD Bank gained more than 0.5% after reporting a 38% rise in net income, driven by strong results in its US business and soaring profit in wholesale banking.
