27 August 2026, 04:49 Australia: Capital Spending Drop in Q2.
Total new capital expenditure in Australia fell 3.6% quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter of 2026, reversing an upwardly revised 6.9% increase in the previous quarter and compared with market expectations for no change. Investment in equipment, plant and machinery declined 8.9%, after an 18.4% jump in the prior quarter, primarily due to lower investment in information media and telecommunications and a smaller increase in mining investment. In contrast, spending on buildings and structures rose 2.1%, rebounding from a 3.3% drop, driven by investment in utilities and information media and telecommunications.
