25 August 2026, 11:44 Hong Kong: Import Growth Slows in July.
Imports to Hong Kong rose 41% year-on-year to USD 677.4 billion in July 2026, easing from a 45.4% increase in June. Growth was broad-based across major commodity categories, led by electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof (54%), office machines and automatic data-processing machines (78.9%), and non-ferrous metals (242.5%). By source, imports increased most from South Korea (122.2%) and India (105.7%), followed by the UK (88.3%), Vietnam (72%), Malaysia (45.9%) and mainland China (43.2%). In the first seven months of 2026, imports rose 40.6% year-on-year, driven by electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof (47%), telecommunications and sound-recording and reproducing apparatus and equipment (62.2%), and non-ferrous metals (205.2%).
