24 August 2026, 18:58  France: CAC 40 Slips Amid US-Iran Tensions.

The CAC 40 fell 0.4% to close at 8,453 on Monday, extending losses from the previous week amid uncertainty surrounding imminent US sanctions against Iran. The measures could further restrict Iranian oil flows and push oil prices higher, creating renewed inflationary pressures. In Europe, investors continued to price in a 25-basis-point ECB rate hike in September following the central bank’s tightening move in June. Industrial stocks fell, with Safran down 1.1%, Thales losing 0.8%, Sanofi shedding 0.8% and EssilorLuxottica retreating 0.9%. Financials closed mixed, with BNP Paribas and Societe Generale each losing 0.6%, while AXA added 0.9%. Meanwhile, TotalEnergies lost 1.9% as oil prices pulled back as investors booked profits ahead of the US sanctions announcement. The tech sector tracked losses in Wall Street chipmakers, with Schneider Electric down 1.7% and STMicroelectronics losing 2%. Luxury stocks posted gains as companies saw the first signs of a demand rebound in China.
