France’s manufacturing business climate index rose to 103 in August 2026 from 101 in July, remaining above its long-term average. This marked the strongest reading since January, as personal production prospects rebounded sharply to 9 from -1 in July, moving above their historical average, while past production eased to 5 from 7 but remained above average. The general production outlook held steady at -11, remaining below its long-term average. Order books were unchanged at -12, while foreign orders improved to -8 from -12, with both remaining above their long-term averages. Finished goods inventories fell to 6 from 11, moving further below average. Expected selling prices edged up to 11 from 9, while perceived economic uncertainty eased for a fourth straight month to 28 from 30, falling below its average. Employment indicators were mixed, with past staffing slipping to -1 from 0, while expected staffing rebounded to 1 from -3, with both remaining above their historical averages.
