19 August 2026, 18:58  France: CAC 40 Slips on Financials and Industrials Losses.

The CAC 40 edged 0.1% lower to close at 8,502 on Wednesday, weighed down by losses in the industrial and financial sectors. Oil prices hit a three-week high as uncertainty over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing supply disruptions persisted. Financials and the broader market remained under pressure amid energy-driven inflationary pressures stemming from the US-Iran conflict and ahead of the release of the US Fed’s July meeting minutes. France’s 10-year yield recently climbed to its highest level since 2008. BNP Paribas shed 2.4%, AXA lost 1.3%, Credit Agricole was down 2.6% and Societe Generale retreated 3.8%. Industrials also posted losses, with Airbus down 0.8%, Safran losing 1.1% and Thales shedding 2.3%. STMicroelectronics retreated 3.1%, as the selloff in US chipmakers extended. In contrast, TotalEnergies rose 1% on higher oil prices. Luxury stocks helped partially offset losses, with LVMH up 1.8%, L’Oreal adding 1.9%, Hermes rising 1.4% and Kering advancing 1.7%.
