8 May 2026, 14:13 Greece: Inflation Rate Picks Up to Over 3-Year High.
The annual inflation rate in Greece quickened further to 5.4% in April 2026 from 3.9% in the prior month, reaching the highest level since February 2023. Rising energy and fuel costs, along with sustained increases in basic food prices have supported the overall rise in inflation. Price increases were most pronounced in housing and utilities (13.8% vs 5.7% in March), amid higher electricity tariffs, and transportation (10% vs 8%), particularly fuel and air travel costs, while food inflation stayed elevated at 4.4% vs 4.5%. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 1.5% in April, after a 2.6% advance in the prior month. Meanwhile, the EU-harmonized annual inflation rate accelerated to 4.6%, the steepest since March 2023, up from 3.4% in the month before.
