Retail trade in Spain went up by 0.8% year-on-year in April 2026, following a 4.1% surge in the prior month, partly reflecting a base effect from a strong comparison period a year earlier. Sales growth slowed sharply for non-food products (2.6% vs 6.7% in March), particularly personal equipment (0.7% vs 4.5%); household equipment (3.3% vs 7.7%) and healthcare products (2.3% vs 6.1%). Spending on food also moderated (1.5% vs 2.7%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade fell by 1.5% in April, reversing a 1.2% increase in the previous month.
