8 September 2025, 09:55 Germany: Imports Inch Lower.
Germany’s imports edged down 0.1% month-on-month to EUR 115.4 billion in July 2025, reversing a marginally revised 4.1% growth in the previous month, which had marked the fastest rise since January. The decline reflected spillover effects from broad U.S. tariffs, which created headwinds for trade and the domestic economy. Purchases from non-EU countries dropped 4.5%, driven by lower imports from the U.S. (-7.9%), China (-7.3%), the UK (-3.1%), and Russia (-12.4%). By contrast, arrivals from the EU rose 2.5%, with gains from both the Eurozone (2.5%) and non-Eurozone (2.6%). Over January–July, total imports grew 4.9% year-on-year to EUR 796.6 billion.
