5 September 2025, 22:04 France: CAC 40 Ends Week Lower.
The CAC 40 fell 0.3% to close at 7,675 on Friday, tracking the pullback in US equities after pessimistic labor data from the US sounded alarms over the world's largest economy. Nonfarm payrolls came in well below expectations and the unemployment rate, under special scrutiny by the Federal Reserve, rose to a near four-year high, cementing expectations of a rate cut later this month. Meanwhile, political uncertainty in France continued to weigh on investors, as Prime Minister Francois Bayrou is widely expected to lose a crucial confidence vote in parliament on Monday, potentially leading to a government collapse, delays to the budget process, or even snap elections. Bayrou’s last-minute negotiations with opposition leaders ended in deadlock, making his defeat all but certain. Financials were among the hardest hit, with AXA, BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole, and Socite Generale losing between 0.8% and 1.9%.
