Switzerland’s consumer confidence index fell to -40 in August 2025, the lowest in four months, down from -33 in July and well below market expectations of -37. The reading also marked a deterioration from -35 recorded in the same month last year. The expected economic development sub-index dropped sharply to -66 from -22 a year earlier. By contrast, households were relatively less negative on their past financial situation (-40 vs -53 in August 2024), their expected financial situation (-29 vs -31), and the suitability of timing for major purchases (-24 vs -32).
