Retail sales in Romania rose by 4.5% year-on-year in July 2025 from an upwardly revised 2.6% increase in the previous month. This marked the strongest growth in retail activity since February, driven by a surge in sales of automotive fuels (11.9% vs 0.2% in June) and a rebound in food, beverages, and tobacco (0.5% vs -0.6%). Meanwhile, sales growth in non-food products eased slightly (5.8% vs 6.0%). On a monthly basis, retail trade rose by 0.3% in July, easing from an upwardly revised 1.2% gain in the preceding period.
