The number of job quits in the US fell by 75,000 to 3.091 million in August 2025, from the downwardly revised 3.166 million in July and below the 3.177 million recorded a year earlier. It was the lowest figure since November 2024. The quits rate, a metric that measures voluntary job leavers as a proportion of total employment, ticked down to 1.9% in August from 2% in the previous month. The number of quits declined in accommodation and food services (-140,000) and in arts, entertainment, and recreation (-22,000), but increased in construction (+56,000). The largest decline in job quits was in the Northeast (-54,000), with smaller drops in the Midwest (-17,000) and South (-7,000). In contrast, the West recorded a modest increase (+3,000).
