Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Thursday urged that China and the U.S. must “find the right way to get along in the new era,” calling their ties “the most important bilateral relations in the world.” Speaking on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Li met with groups including the U.S.-China Business Council and the Council on Foreign Relations. He emphasized that both nations should act as “partners and friends,” citing President Xi Jinping’s remark that “the broad Pacific Ocean is vast enough to embrace both China and the United States.” Li called for mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, while stressing the importance of economic and trade ties. He noted the complementary nature of both markets and their roles in global supply chains, adding that stronger cooperation would not only benefit China and the U.S. but also the world economy.
