Food prices in Malaysia increased 2.0% year-on-year in August 2025, slightly up from July’s 1.9%, the softest pace in ten months. Price growth quickened for fish & other seafood (2.3% vs 1.8% in July) while continuing to rise for oils and fats (1.4% vs 1.5%), sugar, confectionery, and desserts (0.6% vs 0.8%), and food away from home (4.3% vs 4.3%). On the other hand, costs fell further for food at home (-0.1% vs -0.3%), cereals and cereal products (-0.6% vs -0.6%), meat (-0.5% vs -0.9%), milk, dairy products, and eggs (-1.4% vs -1.1%), fruits and nuts (-0.7% vs -0.3%), and vegetables (-6.5% vs -6.6%).
