The CAC 40 fell 0.7% to close at 7,654 on Tuesday, its weakest since early August, as investors parsed firmer-than-expected eurozone inflation and growing political risk at home. France’s Prime Minister Bayrou calling a confidence vote amplified concern about policy paralysis and regulatory uncertainty, hitting banks hardest given their sensitivity to governance and fiscal stability, and left financials the biggest drag on the index. Eurozone CPI accelerated to 2.1% in August from 2.0% in July, with core inflation steady at 2.3%, a print that makes it likely the ECB pauses any rate cuts next week and reduces the odds of meaningful easing later this year.
