2 September 2025, 10:37  Spain: Jobless Rises More Than Expected.

The number of people registering as jobless in Spain climbed by 21,905 people in August 2025, a 0.9% rise from the previous month that exceeded the forecast of 14,200. Still, it marked the lowest August figure since 2007. Unemployment typically declines at the start of summer, as the tourism industry boosts seasonal hiring. However, it tends to rise again toward the end of the season, when tourist activity slows and temporary contracts end. A separate report from the Social Security Ministry showed the number of net formal jobs increased by 29,836 to 21.67 million, after adjusting for calendar effects and excluding seasonality.
