Prabowo, who cancelled a trip to China due to the turmoil, also convened his cabinet Sunday to address the crisis. The United Nations urged an investigation into the alleged excessive use of force by authorities, as last week’s furor was fueled by anger over lavish allowances for lawmakers and what critics call extravagant policies amid budget tightening. Bank Indonesia, meanwhile, pledged to stabilize the rupiah through measures, including forex intervention. Notably, the local currency gained even as the dollar index strengthened ahead of key U.S. labor data later this week.
