China’s cyberspace regulator has ordered companies, including Alibaba, to halt orders for Nvidia’s RTX Pro 6000D, a workstation chip that can be adapted for AI, Bloomberg News reported. The Cyberspace Administration of China told firms to stop testing the chip and cancel purchases, sources said. Some companies had earlier planned to buy tens of thousands of units, according to the Financial Times. Nvidia developed the 6000D to sidestep US export controls on advanced AI chips to China. The directive underscores Beijing’s push to reduce reliance on Nvidia hardware and foster domestic alternatives, while also protesting US restrictions that block access to high-end foreign chips and manufacturing gear, measures that remain a sticking point in US-China trade talks.
