10 September 2025, 04:13  USA: Supreme Court to Rule on Legality of Trump’s Global Tariffs.

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed Tuesday to hear a case on the legality of Donald Trump’s sweeping global tariffs. The justices took up the Justice Department’s appeal after a lower court ruled Trump exceeded his authority in imposing most of the tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), a 1977 law meant for emergencies. The Federal Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington found on August 29 that Trump had overreached, undercutting a key priority of his trade agenda. The case carries high stakes, potentially affecting trillions of dollars in customs duties over the next decade. The Supreme Court put the case on a fast track, scheduling oral arguments for early November, shortly after its new term begins on October 6. For now, the tariffs remain in effect while the appeal is pending.
