The unemployment rate in Austria rose to 7.0% in August 2025 from 6.7% in the same month of the previous year. The increase was driven by a rise in the number of unemployed persons, which climbed 13.9 thousand year-on-year to 301.4 thousand. Compared to the previous period, the number of unemployed persons increased by 1.1 thousand. By gender, jobless rate for women stood at 7.1%, 0.3 percentage points higher than a year earlier, while the rate for men rose by 0.2 percentage points to 7.0%. Meanwhile, around 367.1 thousand people were registered as unemployed or in training in August.
