1 September 2025, 12:21 Hungary: Factory Activity Returns to Contraction.
The HALPIM Manufacturing PMI fell to 48.9 in August 2025 from a revised 50.5 in July, signaling a renewed contraction in Hungary’s manufacturing sector. The index dropped below its long-term monthly average, although it remained slightly above the three-year average recorded last month. Most subcomponents of the index weakened compared to the previous month. Notably, the new orders index declined by 4.3 percentage points, while purchased stocks also fell. The employment index slipped further into negative territory, suggesting continued weakness in labor demand. Meanwhile, purchase prices rose, pointing to increasing input cost pressures.
