Building consents for new dwellings in New Zealand rose 5.4% month-on-month in July 2025 to 3,252 units on a seasonally adjusted basis. The total included 1,512 stand-alone houses, 1,413 townhouses, flats and units, 192 apartments, and 135 retirement village units. Apartment consents remained volatile, often reflecting the timing of large projects. Regionally, Auckland led the growth with 14,347 total dwelling consents, while activity weakened in Canterbury, Waikato, Wellington and Otago.
