7 July 2025, 15:18  India: Sensex Ends on Cautious Note.

India's BSE Sensex closed virtually unchanged at 83,442.5 on Monday, as gains in consumer and oil & gas stocks were offset by declines in financial and IT shares. Meanwhile, caution prevailed ahead of a potential mini India–US trade deal and broader US tariff changes expected by July 9. US President Trump stated on Sunday that trade deals with multiple countries are nearly complete and that official notification about new tariff rates will be issued by July 9, with new rates effective August 1st. He also warned that countries which side with the policies of the Brics alliance that go against US interests will be hit with an extra 10% tariff- with no exceptions. Traders also braced for the release of the US Federal Reserve’s meeting minutes later this week for guidance on the central bank’s monetary policy path. Among individual stocks, Hindustan Unilever led the gains with a 3% advance, followed by Kotak Bank, ITC, Asian Paints, Reliance, Adani Ports and Trent, adding up to 1.1%.
