7 July 2025, 07:40 USA: 10-Year Yield Steady as Tariff Deadline Moved.
The yield on the US 10-year Treasury note held near 4.33% on Monday, as markets digested President Donald Trump’s confirmation that sweeping reciprocal tariffs will take effect on August 1. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent earlier stated that tariffs would revert to April 2 levels for countries that haven’t reached a trade agreement with the US by that date, giving more time for negotiations. So far, only China, the UK, and Vietnam have struck partial deals with Washington. The benchmark yield had jumped on Friday after stronger-than-expected labor market data eased pressure on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates. The US economy added 147,000 jobs in June, beating forecasts, while figures for May and April were revised higher. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate unexpectedly dipped to 4.1%, but wage growth softened to 0.2%, below expectations.
