Average weekly earnings in Canada rose by 3.3% year-over-year to CAD 1,294 in May 2025, easing from a downwardly revised 4.3% gain in April. The deceleration in wage growth was broad-based across sectors and reflects a mix of wage adjustments, changes in employment composition, hours worked, and base effects. The most notable slowdowns were seen in oil and gas extraction (3.1% vs 7.2%) and support activities for mining and energy (2.8% vs 7.1%). In contrast, earnings in mining and quarrying accelerated (3.4% vs 1.5%). On a monthly basis, average weekly earnings were little changed. Meanwhile, average weekly hours worked declined slightly to 33.3 hours in May, down from 33.5 hours in both April 2025 and May 2024.
