17 July 2025, 11:17 United Kingdom: Job Growth Beats Forecasts.
The number of employed people in the United Kingdom jumped by 134 thousand in the three months to May 2025, following an 89 thousand increase in the previous period and surpassing forecasts of a 46 thousand rise. This marked the largest employment gain since February, driven by increases in both part-time workers and full-time employees. In contrast, the number of full-time self-employed people declined. Compared to the same period a year earlier, employment surged by 754 thousand, largely due to gains in full-time and part-time employee roles. Meanwhile, the employment rate for those aged 16 to 64 rose by 0.2 percentage points to 75.2%. The number of people holding second jobs rose to 1.325 million - accounting for 3.9% of all employed individuals - reflecting growth both over the quarter and compared to the same period last year.
