17 July 2025, 11:12  United Kingdom: Payroll Employment Falls Further.

The number of payrolled employees in the United Kingdom dropped by 41 thousand, or 0.1% to 30.3 million in June 2025, following a revised 25 thousand fall in the previous month. This marked the fifth consecutive monthly decrease and the steepest drop since November 2020. Compared to the same month last year, payrolled employment declined by 0.6% or 178 thousand, with the largest decrease observed in the accommodation and food service activities sector (-108 thousand). Across regions, Westminster recorded the biggest drop in payrolled employees (-3.3%), while Shetland Islands saw the highest growth (1.8%). Meanwhile, the median monthly pay rose by 5.6% year-on-year to 2,522 GBP. Annual growth in median pay was the highest in accommodation and food service activities sector (7.3%), while the lowest was in the professional, scientific and technical sector (3.4%).
