16 July 2025, 15:15 USA: Mortgage Rates Rise for 1st Time in 3 Weeks - MBA.
The average contract interest rate for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages with conforming loan balances ($806,500 or less) in the US rose by 5 basis points to 6.82% in the week ending July 11th 2025, compared to 6.77% in the previous period which was the lowest level in three months, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. “Treasury yields finished higher last week on average despite an intra-week drop, driven partly by renewed concerns of the impact of tariffs on the economy. As a result, mortgage rates rose after two weeks of declines, which contributed to slower application activity,” said Joel Kan, MBA’s vice president and deputy chief economist. It compares with a rate of 6.87% a year earlier.
