16 July 2025, 14:48  India: Sensex Ends on Cautious Note.

India's BSE Sensex closed virtually unchanged at 82,634.5 on Wednesday, remaining near its highest level since July 10, as investors stayed cautious amid ongoing trade developments and the release of first-quarter FY26 earnings. US President Donald Trump announced a trade deal pact with Indonesia but flagged steep tariffs on pharmaceuticals and semiconductors by the end of July. Trump also announced that India is negotiating a trade deal similar to the US-Indonesia agreement, aiming for increased US market access. Overall, 8 of the 11 major sectoral indices ended higher, led by IT (+0.6%) as Tech Mahindra rose 1.9% ahead of its results. The auto index gained 0.4%, driven by Mahindra & Mahindra, while Tata Motors capped gains. Among notable stock movers, ITC Hotels rallied nearly 5% after reporting a 54% year-on-year jump in Q1 net profit. Metals edged down 0.5%.
