Hungary’s gross average wages rose by 7.8% year-on-year to HUF 702,800 in May 2025, easing from a 9.8% advance in the previous month. This marked the smallest rise in wages since February 2023, as growth slowed for both the private sector (7.4% vs 9.9% in April) and the non-profit sector (8.3% vs 12.5%). Meanwhile, a wage increase was recorded in the public sector (9% vs 8.4%). Without the impact of one-off payments and bonuses, May’s wages were 8.6% higher than in the same period a year ago at HUF 660,000. Throughout the January to May period, average gross wages increased by 9%.
