U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday a trade agreement with Indonesia that includes major purchase commitments, helping the country avoid steeper tariffs. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Indonesian goods would now face a 19% tariff, down from the 32% he had previously threatened. “As part of the Agreement, Indonesia has committed to purchasing $15 Billion Dollars in US Energy, $4.5 Billion Dollars in American Agricultural Products, and 50 Boeing Jets, many of them 777's,” he wrote. The timing for implementing the reduced tariffs and fulfilling the purchase pledges remains unclear. Trump said the deal followed talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, and warned that goods rerouted to bypass tariffs would face harsher penalties.
