14 July 2025, 19:49 United Kingdom: FTSE 100 Outperforms Continental Europe.
The FTSE 100 climbed over 0.5% to a new record near 9000 on Monday, outperforming other European indices hit by Trump’s 30% tariffs on EU and Mexican imports. Gains were led by safe-haven and pharma stocks. Fresnillo jumped over 2% as rising gold and silver prices boosted demand for precious metals amid global trade uncertainty. AstraZeneca also gained around 2% after reporting strong trial results for its experimental hypertension drug Baxdrostat, acquired through its $1.8 billion CinCor deal in 2023. In contrast, oil majors Shell and BP dropped more than 1% as crude prices slipped due to concerns over weaker global demand triggered by escalating trade tensions.
