11 July 2025, 13:55 Japan: Tariff Impact Limited But Demand Worries Grow - BoJ Report.
The Bank of Japan said Thursday that the impact of U.S. tariffs on Japan’s exports and factory output has been limited so far, though many companies are increasingly concerned about weakening global demand. According to a summary of its quarterly meeting with regional branch managers, some firms have delayed or reviewed capital spending, while others continue to invest to improve efficiency and address labor shortages. “At present, the impact was limited overall,” the central bank said, but added that many regions reported worries over “slumping demand from rising U.S. sales prices and a slowdown in the global economy.” In a separate report, the BoJ maintained its view that all nine regions are “recovering moderately,” unchanged from three months ago. The summary and report will help inform the central bank’s next policy meeting on July 30–31, when it will release updated economic and inflation forecasts.
