22 November 2012, 18:16  Canadian retail sales rises

Canadian retail sales rose for a third month, edging up 0.10 percent in September. However, retail sales in volume terms were flat, with in 7 of 11 sub-sectors recording gains, representing almost 70 percent of total retail trade. According to the earlier report, retail sales rose 0.3 percent in August. The largest increase in dollar terms among all sub-sectors was a 0.6 percent rise at motor vehicle and parts dealers. A 0.9 percent increase at new car dealers was partially offset by a 2.7 percent decline at automotive parts, accessories and tire stores. Retail sales rose in five provinces in September, with Alberta reporting the largest gain in dollar terms, in part a result of higher sales at new car dealers. Sales advanced in this province for three consecutive month
