U.S. share prices were held fairly steady Thursday after a sharp
reversal of early losses, though earnings warnings continue to climb and
the day had a mixed ending. A new batch of companies issued warnings,
led this time by non- technologies. Dealers and analysts are looking
into 2002 for the first signs of a profit recovery, as the
fourth-quarter is now seen flat to slightly lower. The Dow industrials
ended up 13.71 points, at 9,799.06. The Nasdaq composite finished down
1.81%, 33.56 points, at 1,820.57.
