9 July 2026, 05:33 China: Food Inflation Drops for 3rd Month.
China's food prices fell 1.6% year-on-year in June 2026, following a 1.7% decline in the previous month, which was the steepest decline in seven months. It was the third consecutive monthly decrease, reflecting ample food supplies and weak consumer demand. Prices continued to decline for fresh fruit (-0.7% vs -1.0% in May), edible oils (-1.1% vs -1.2%), and dairy products (-1.7% vs -1.2%), while fresh vegetable prices fell after rising in May (-0.3% vs 1.6%). Pork prices, a key component of China's food basket, declined at a slower pace (-15.9% vs -16.1%) amid abundant supply and subdued consumption. In contrast, egg prices rose, though at a softer pace than in the previous month (5.8% vs 6.6%).
