29 July 2026, 01:24  Canada: TSX Hits New Peak as Oil Prices Fall.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index gained 0.5% to close at a record 35,750 on Wednesday, lifted by strength in financial and technology stocks. Oil prices fell as hopes for a resolution to the US-Iran conflict grew, easing energy-driven inflation concerns and pushing bond yields lower. RBC and BMO rose 1.1%, while TD Bank added 0.6%. Brookfield (+0.7%) announced it had raised about $2 billion for a private equity fund focused on investments the Middle East. Technology stocks soared after Celestica (+9.5%) beat second-quarter adjusted earnings estimates. Shopify rose 2.7%, while Constellation Software jumped 6.4%. Mining stocks fell as gold prices fell ahead of the Fed's policy decision. Agnico Eagle lost 1.6%, Barrick fell 1.7%, and WPM dropped 2.3%. Energy shares lost on lower oil prices, with Canadian Natural down 1.3% and Cenovus shedding 1.4%. Great-West Lifeco (+0%), First Quantum (-2.3%), Cardinal Energy (-1.2%), and Intact Financial (+2.3%) are due to report earnings after the bell.
