27 July 2026, 16:02 Hong Kong: Imports Growth Surges to 1992 High.
Imports to Hong Kong rose 45.5% year-on-year to USD 693 billion in June 2026, following a 42% rise in the previous month. The latest figure marked the largest import growth since February 1992, driven largely by increased purchases in electrical machinery, apparatus, appliances, and electrical parts thereof (+54.2%), telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing apparatus and equipment (+67.3%), and office machines and automatic data processing machines (+53.6%). By source, imports recorded the strongest growth among major suppliers from Korea (+176.7%), Vietnam (+106.8%), India (+95.4%), Malaysia (+62.4%), and Mainland China (+41.0%). For the first half of 2026, imports grew 40.6% compared to the same period a year earlier, lifted by higher inflows of non-ferrous metals (+197.8%), telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing apparatus and equipment (+71.5%), and electrical machinery, apparatus, appliances, and electrical parts thereof (+47.0%).
