23 July 2026, 12:01 Taiwan: Retail Sales Growth Accelerates to 2-Year High.
Retail sales in Taiwan increased by 8% year-on-year in June 2026, accelerating from an upwardly revised 5.2% rise in the previous month. This marked the strongest growth since February 2024, driven by a sharp rebound in sales of motor vehicles, motorcycles, and related parts and accessories (19.1% vs -0.8% in May), as well as faster growth in food, beverages, and tobacco (4.3% vs 1.6%), information and communications equipment and electrical household appliances (6.4% vs 4.7%), and other retail sales (10.9% vs 9.8%). Meanwhile, growth slowed notably in fuel and related products (11.9% vs 17.5%), construction materials (5.0% vs 13.7%), cultural and recreational goods (4.2% vs 9.5%), pharmaceutical and medical goods and cosmetics (2.6% vs 5.6%), and household appliances and goods (3.6% vs 7.4%). On a monthly basis, retail sales rose by 1.1%, easing from an upwardly revised 3% increase in May.
