20 July 2026, 15:28 India: Infrastructure Output Picks Up.
Infrastructure output in India jumped by 5.0% from the previous year in June of 2026 from the upwardly revised 3.2% increase in the previous month to mark the sharpest pace of growth since January. The result reflected some traction from the more fragile growth rates in the second quarter after the war in Iran triggered a surge in energy prices and costs that Indian manufacturers face. Output was high for construction inputs in iron ore (43.9% vs 19.0% in May), cement (9.8% vs 8.4%), and steel (4.6% vs 5.1%). Production also expanded for electricity (9.8% vs 11.2%). In turn, the supply shock from Persian Gulf energy exports reduced output for refinery products (-4.7% vs -8.2%).
