16 July 2026, 10:35  United Kingdom: Economy Rebounds in May.

The GDP in the UK expanded by 0.1% month-on-month in May 2026, in line with market expectations and rebounding from a 0.1% contraction in April. Growth was driven by a 0.3% increase in services output, with professional, scientific and technical activities providing the largest positive contribution, supported by strength in scientific research and development and advertising services. Administrative and support services and health activities also advanced, partially offsetting a 0.5% decline in production and a 0.8% fall in construction. In the three months to May, GDP grew 0.7%, marking a sixth consecutive three-month expansion, led by services, while construction rose 1.6% and production edged up 0.1%. Compared with a year earlier, the economy expanded 1.3%, below market expectations of 1.4% but up from a revised 1.1% increase in April.
