Seasonally adjusted electronic card transactions in New Zealand dropped 1.4% month over month in June 2026, reversing a downwardly revised 1.6% decline in the previous month. The decline was driven by lower spending on hospitality (-1.9% vs 1.4% in May), durables (-3.9% vs 3.2%), and apparel (-2.2% vs 3.0%). Additionally, fuel spending continued to decline due to the impact of the Middle East conflict (-1.7% vs -1.5%).
