8 April 2026, 13:41 France: The current account deficit has reached a seven-month high.
In February 2026, France's current account deficit was 1.8 billion euros, down from an eighteen-month high and an upwardly revised surplus of 2.3 billion euros in the previous month. This was the largest gap since July 2025, largely due to a decrease in the positive balance of the services account, which fell to 50.8 billion euros from 52.3 billion euros in January. On the contrary, the deficit of goods decreased from 54.2 billion euros to 53 billion euros. Moreover, the primary income surplus remained stable at 4.2 billion euros, while the secondary income deficit was 4.6 billion euros. For comparison, in the same month last year, the current account deficit amounted to 1.2 billion euros, which highlights the expansion of the current account.
