22 April 2026, 17:26  Euro Zone: Consumer Confidence Drops to Over 3-Year Low.

Euro Area consumer confidence slipped by 4.3 points from a month earlier to -20.6 in April 2026, the lowest since December 2022, according to flash estimates. This reflects growing caution among households amid an uncertain economic outlook. Persistent geopolitical tensions and shipping disruptions are contributing to higher energy prices and inflationary pressures, which may squeeze household purchasing power. Expectations for ECB rate hikes have edged lower recently, though markets still price in two increases this year. In the broader European Union, consumer sentiment also plummeted 4.2 points to -19.4. Confidence in both the eurozone and the EU remains well below their long-term averages.
