5 February 2026, 00:59  Canada: TSX Gains for 3rd Straight Session.

The S&P TSX Composite rose 0.5% to close above the 32,564 level on Wednesday, extending gains for a third consecutive session supported by strength in commodity linked sectors. Gold miners led gains as bullion advanced, lifting Agnico Eagle and Wheaton Precious Metals by 3.1% and 2.6%, while energy stocks also outperformed with Canadian Natural, Imperial Oil, Cenovus, and Tourmaline all posting solid advances between 1.8% and 3.6% on higher oil prices. Industrials and defensives added support, with railways and consumer staples extending gains, while financials were mixed. In contrast, technology remained a notable drag, as Shopify (-4%) and Celestica (-7.1%) fell sharply, weighing on broader index upside. Meanwhile, domestic macro conditions remain soft following recent PMI data showing private sector activity contracting further in January.
